Series Overview
VINLAR is a sword and sorcery saga about, family, betrayal, and the price of vengeance. When his uncle seizes power and sees him as a threat, Vinlar is stripped of everything and driven into exile. Hunted he survives by wit and steel, as a rogue and mercenary wandering the Old Empire and beyond, confronting ancient evils, brutal warlords, and scheming courts. Each adventure buys leverage: unlikely friends, dangerous knowledge, and the means to strike back. As his legend grows, so does the danger, and promise of revenge! The tone is dark, consequence heavy, and gritty, with flashes of humor.
Why it works (hopefully)
Vinlar’s goal of revenge/justice drives the story. The episodic narrative is tied together by this thread. The story can evolve into new adventures while also maintaining continuity.
Drawing inspiration from history but set in a mythical early-medieval setting provides fertile ground for deep fantastical storytelling. The transition from classical to middle ages as inspiration is an exciting and dangerous climate of power vacuums, uncertainty, and opportunity, often overlooked in favor of the more fantastical high middle ages.
